The accumulator trend spreading across Danish betting sites
We have been able to do some form of sports betting for almost 80 years in Denmark. It all started with the pools coupon, introduced by the tipstjenesten back in the late 1940s. Since then, a lot has changed in Danish sports betting.
We no longer have to mark crosses and hit the exact score in 13 matches — today it's possible to bet on just a single outcome with a betting provider. Even so, many players still choose to add more than one event when they bet. Bets with multiple outcomes are also known as accumulator bets, and they are actually becoming increasingly popular on Danish betting sites.
In this article, we look at the concept of accumulator betting, what it involves, and why it has become so popular on the Danish online betting market today.
Single bets losing ground
It's not that Danish players didn't place accumulator bets before, but the trend used to be more focused on singles or doubles. These are betting slips where the player only tries to guess the outcome of one or two sporting events.
In recent years, however, a different development has taken place. More players now choose to bet on several matches on the same slip instead of focusing on one or two outcomes. This can be attributed to several reasons, which relate both to the players' own preferences and to the industry itself.
A higher combined odds
One important reason why many players prefer accumulator betting can be seen in light of the odds that can be built up. When you place a single bet, or a "single outcome" as it's also called, you are only betting on one sporting event. The odds for this event must be multiplied by the total stake to find the potential winnings. It's quite simple and almost possible to work out in your head — and for larger accumulator bets, a calculator can quickly do the job when several odds need to be multiplied together.
However, things are different with an accumulator bet. Here, the player chooses to add extra selections to the slip, which naturally makes the combined odds grow. Just two odds on the slip create a higher combined odds, since these two odds are multiplied together and then multiplied by the stake.
There is effectively no upper limit to how many selections you can add to your accumulator bet. This also means that, in theory, you can build up a rather large combined odds. And this is often precisely the reason why accumulator betting is getting more attention from many players in the Danish market.
Potentially higher winnings for lower risk
The high odds that can be built up in an accumulator bet have the advantage that extremely high odds can be achieved. This means that such a bet doesn't require a particularly large stake from the player, since the combined odds are so high that often only a relatively small stake is needed for the chance to win a larger amount. The prospect of a potentially bigger win with lower risk appeals to many players.
Of course, part of the story is also that adding more selections to the slip lowers the probability of the bet winning. The more selections added to the slip, the higher the winnings you can achieve, but the harder it becomes to get it right. And once you really get up to accumulator bets with 10-15 selections, the conditions for getting it right become genuinely difficult.
The boosted odds feature has played a part
Besides players seeing their own advantages in choosing accumulator bets, there are also certain moves within the betting industry itself that help shift focus toward this type of bet.
Several betting sites have, among other things, launched a boosted odds feature. This means a player can get increased odds on accumulator bets depending on how many selections he or she adds to the slip.
The boosted odds feature increases the combined odds on the slip by a certain percentage depending on the number of selections chosen. Most boosted odds features thus offer a 100 percent increase as the maximum if you choose to add the feature's highest number of selections to the slip. The cap is usually around 20-21 selections.
The Bet Builder feature also creates more focus on accumulator betting
In addition to the boosted odds feature, many betting sites in Denmark also operate with the Bet Builder feature. This gives you the opportunity to combine odds on different outcomes within, for example, the same football match. Previously, it wasn't possible to combine, say, over 2.50 goals with a match-winner bet from the same match.
The Bet Builder feature is quite popular in the market and is often used when people go to the stadium to watch a Superliga match, or when they gather to watch a Champions League match or similar on TV. Here, many players gather their bets into a single accumulator bet from the same match using precisely the Bet Builder feature.
